Frontier enforcement, in public view.
A public index of the seizures and interdictions that Indian enforcement agencies announced in official press releases since January 2024: what was seized, how much, where, and by whom, each linked to its source. Events and places only. No names of private persons.
This index counts what agencies chose to publish, not everything they seized. Most releases come from the Press Information Bureau, where the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Mumbai Customs publish far more often than other agencies, so places and months with more releases are not necessarily places with more smuggling. Values are the agencies' own illicit-market estimates. Coverage and limits.
Official events by month
Months are the release date in India Standard Time. A rise can mean more seizures or more publishing. PIB issued far fewer releases of every kind while the 2024 general election code of conduct was in force, from mid-March to early June 2024. The table shows how many seizure releases each PIB office published per year.
By state
States come from the place a release names; events in several states or at sea are listed separately. Select a state to see its events.
Land-border districts and the rest
Districts on an international land border are compared with coastal and inland districts, airports, ports and seizures at sea. An event is border-related if it is in a land-border district, the release names a cross-border route, a border guarding force acted, or it was an interdiction at sea.
By district
District of the seizure as named in the release, with the district's own zone. Airport and port seizures count in the district where the airport or port lies. Select a district to see its events.
Agencies named
An event counts once for every agency it names, so joint operations count for each. "Named first" is how often the release title names the agency first, usually the one that made the seizure. State police appear only when a central release names them. Select an agency to see its events.

Reported in news
Secondary layerSeizures reported by Indian news outlets and found through the GDELT news index. Headlines are read for quantities and places but not stored, because they often name people. This layer is a sample (GDELT returns 250 articles a month, mostly from the second half of the month), kept apart from the official counts above, and the same seizure can appear in both.
